How to use the roller and gua sha

Two tools, one routine, five minutes. These notes cover the order, the angle and the habits that matter.

Start with slip, never on dry skin
Apply your usual facial oil, serum or moisturiser first and let it settle. Dragging stone across dry skin pulls at it. If a tool is catching rather than gliding, you need more oil, not more pressure.
Gua sha first for contour
Hold the stone almost flat, at roughly fifteen degrees rather than upright on its edge. Anchor the skin with your free hand at the start of each stroke and draw the stone away from that anchor in one smooth sweep. Long curve along the jaw and cheekbone, notch either side of the jaw, broad flank across the forehead.
Then the roller, upward and outward
Work from the centre of the face outward and from the jaw upward, three to five passes per area. Switch to the small stone under the eyes: inner corner outward to the temple, staying on the bone rather than the lid.
Where it fits in your routine
After cleansing and after oil or serum, and before sunscreen in the morning. At night it works as the last step before bed. Three to five minutes covers the whole face. Chill both tools in a refrigerator if you like the cool, but never the freezer.
Clean both after every use
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately. Never soak the roller, because water in the brass yoke is what eventually stiffens the spin, and never put either piece in a dishwasher. Return them to the pouch so the stone cannot chip against anything hard.

Which tool comes first?: Either order works. We suggest gua sha first for the contour strokes and the roller second for an even, cooling finish, but keep whichever you prefer.
How often should I use the set?: Daily is fine, a few times a week is fine. A short session you actually keep up beats a long one you abandon.
Can I use either tool over makeup?: You can, but it is better on bare skin with oil underneath. Over makeup there is little slip, so the tool drags and the makeup moves with it.
Will both pieces be the same green?: They are cut from one lot specifically so they match, which a separately bought roller and stone often do not. Tone still varies from the photograph, because nephrite is quarried stone.
What if I have a breakout, irritation, or a skin condition?: Do not work over broken, inflamed or irritated skin, and go around an active breakout rather than across it.
