About this product

Two body tools, both wooden, both far larger than their facial equivalents because arms and legs are not faces. The gua sha is cut from solid beech with a long comb edge and a broad curved flank, and it is the tool for working the length of a thigh or a calf in one stroke rather than the short sweeps a facial stone asks for.

The brush is a round beechwood head strung with natural boar bristle, firm enough to be worth using and not so firm that it is unpleasant. It has a detachable strap on the back for grip. Dry brushing is done on dry skin before a shower; the gua sha wants oil. Neither takes a battery.

How to use the duo

These two tools want opposite conditions, which is the one thing worth getting straight before you start.

Brush on dry skin, before a shower
Dry brushing means dry. No oil, no water, no lotion. Work from the feet upward and from the hands toward the shoulders, in long strokes toward the heart, then shower afterwards.
Gua sha on oiled skin, after
The wooden gua sha is the opposite: it needs a body oil or lotion to glide. Use it after the shower on skin that still has product on it, in long strokes up the limb.
Long strokes, moderate pressure
Body tissue takes more pressure than a face does, but you are not trying to leave marks. One firm, continuous stroke along the length of a limb beats twenty short scrubbing ones.
Keep both dry between uses
Wood splits and bristle rots if they live in a wet bathroom. Wipe with a barely damp cloth, dry immediately, and store them somewhere with air rather than in a shower caddy.

Can I use the wooden gua sha on my face?: We would not. It is cut to a body scale and the edge geometry is wrong for facial contours. Use the jade or quartz tools there.
How often should I dry brush?: Two or three times a week is plenty to start, on skin that tolerates it well. Daily is more than most people need or enjoy.
Is the bristle synthetic?: No, it is natural boar bristle, so this duo is not suitable if you avoid animal-derived materials.
